Growing In Faith and Learning

'Growing in Faith and Learning' 'Life in all it's fullness' John 10:10

Welcome to St Leonard's CofE Primary School

Welcome to St. Leonard’s Church of England Primary School. We hope our website gives you a flavour of our vibrant, happy school and the achievements of our delightful children. We are a thriving church school in the picturesque village of Wigginton with a strong Christian ethos, growing in faith and learning. We passionately believe in developing the ‘whole child’ and ensure all children have the opportunity to reach their goals and shine in their own unique and wonderful way. Our kind, caring and dedicated team nurture, motivate and encourage our children to be confident and well-rounded members of their community. I am incredibly proud to be the Headteacher of St. Leonard’s, a place where children develop a passion for learning, feel good about themselves, are proud of their achievements and create lasting memories of friendship and connection in our school family. I warmly invite you to come and visit us at St. Leonard’s Mrs Kirsty Cullen, Headteacher.

Changes to Nursery Provision from September 2018

Admissions to the Nursery Class

From September 2018, our Nursery provision has been extended. These changes include:

  • 30 hours of provision will now be available (9am-3pm daily)

  • Nursery children will be able to access the breakfast club and after school club. The 30 hours funding can be used flexibly for example to enable 4 longer days rather than 5 days. However bookings must be made monthly in advance because the staffing ratios vary if a nursery child is present.

  • Nursery children can be admitted the term after their third birthday- therefore we will now have 3 different intake points (September, January and after the Easter holidays).

  • Children may now also have a lunch at school. If a school meal is required, the meal is charged at £2.15 in line with the costs for key stage 2 children. Nursery children are not eligible for free school lunches.

  • For families not eligible for the 30 hours funding, additional sessions can be paid for. The cost of each session is £5.00 per hour and must be booked for each half term and paid in advance. Sessions booked, need to be whole sessions i.e. all morning (3 hours) or all afternoon (2hours or 3 hours including lunch).

  • We can take up to 13 children into the Nursery. The governors can agree to go over this number, if there are vacancies in the Reception class.

  • Please be advised that being allocated a place in our nursery does not mean that your child is entitled to a place the following year in Reception. The normal admissions criteria still applies.

Parents have to complete both a St Leonard’s and a Local Authority admission form (available online.) Application for admission to Nursery class should be submitted by 5th March 2018 for admissions in September 18. However, late applications will always be considered. Criteria for admission will be the same as for admission to the Reception year. St Leonard’s application forms must be returned to the school.
