Growing In Faith and Learning

'Growing in Faith and Learning' 'Life in all it's fullness' John 10:10

Welcome to St Leonard's CofE Primary School

Welcome to St. Leonard’s Church of England Primary School. We hope our website gives you a flavour of our vibrant, happy school and the achievements of our delightful children. We are a thriving church school in the picturesque village of Wigginton with a strong Christian ethos, growing in faith and learning. We passionately believe in developing the ‘whole child’ and ensure all children have the opportunity to reach their goals and shine in their own unique and wonderful way. Our kind, caring and dedicated team nurture, motivate and encourage our children to be confident and well-rounded members of their community. I am incredibly proud to be the Headteacher of St. Leonard’s, a place where children develop a passion for learning, feel good about themselves, are proud of their achievements and create lasting memories of friendship and connection in our school family. I warmly invite you to come and visit us at St. Leonard’s Mrs Kirsty Cullen, Headteacher.

  • Robins Snow & Ice Topic

    Fri 14 Feb 2020
Robins have had a lovely week, bringing their topic Snow and Ice to an end.  We have been creative and made some snowmen biscuits to celebrate our fun topic but the most fun we had was when the weather turned to snow and we had the chance to go in the snow!  We danced, sang 'Let it go' and stuck our tongues out to see what it tastes like!  Whilst we got our feet a little soggy, the children had a fantastic time and were so excited (as were the adults) to see real flakes of snow falling from the sky.  Perfect timing!
  • Talent Show

    Fri 07 Feb 2020

This week we held our annual talent show at Tamworth Enterprise College.  This was a great opportunity

for the children to showcase their talents to a large audience.  It was great to see lots of different acts, including dancing, singing, gymnastics, poetry, drama and interesting animals facts from Dr. Fliss. The school's dance team and choir also performed on the night.

Thank you to the school governors and Mrs Arnold, who had the very difficult job as judges. The winners were:

1st- Dr. Fliss' hilarious animal facts and Emily and Elsie's rendition of Edelweiss

2nd- Maisie's gymnastic skills and Alfie's scene from Les Miserables

3rd- Laila's monologue from Alice in Wonderland; Dylan's version of a 'One direction' song and Demi's dance to the script.

Well done to everyone that took part, you were all amazing, and congratulations to our winners.

The talent show raised a whopping £371 that the school council are putting towards their playground Games Den.

  • Kingfishers trip to Tamworth Castle

    Fri 07 Feb 2020

This week Kingfishers visited Tamworth Castle as part of their History topic on Castles. After visiting the Great Hall they went to the Armoury where they got to look at the different weapons and tried on chainmail and helmets. They even sat on the Lord and Lady's thrones.

Their first workshop was helping the servants lay the table ready for the Lord and Lady.   They laid the table for dinner and found out lots of interesting facts, including what everything was made from. They even had to bow/curtesy when the Lady entered and couldn't sit down until she gave them permission.

After lunch they attended the Squire workshop.  Here they met Master Lincoln, the Squire in charge of training the young men to be Knights. They learnt how to dress in a full suit of body armour and then stood in line and practised handling the lances, striking high and low.

  • Owls News

    Fri 31 Jan 2020
Owls have just finished their second French topic of the year, called 'En Classe'. They have been learning the names for items they use at school, colours and describing an object's colour, e.g, un stylo vert, asking and answering how old they are and understanding instructions in the classroom. We are now beginning some work on the body.
In Music, they have been focusing on 'Mamma Mia' by ABBA. They are busy creating a performance where they sing, accompany the song on the recorder and even creating their own composition to go with it.
  • Owls Faith Walk

    Fri 24 Jan 2020
Owls had a brilliant time on their Faith walk in Derby this week, What an amazing experience it was for them all being able to visit three different places of worship within a close distance of each other. They visited a Gurdwara, a Mosque and a Baptist church. The children were a real credit to the school-impeccably behaved; asked lots of really excellent questions and they were all very respectful throughout. Thank you to Rev Debra, Vic and Liz for accompanying us. Something to remember forever.
