Growing In Faith and Learning
Welcome to Doves!
Doves is our Year 1 class, taught by Mrs Hunt and Mrs Cooke, and assisted by Mrs Ward. Mrs Hunt teaches the class on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays and Mrs Cooke teaches Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Together, we strive to provide the best possible learning and nurturing experiences for the children in our class.
Topic
Our new topic for this half term is all about 'Castles'. We have lots of lovely activities planned and we are hoping to book a class trip to Tamworth Castle too!
Reading Diaries
Please encourage your child to read often and discuss, predict and question your child's understanding of the text. Please ensure you have signed your child's reading diary and remind them to bring reading books and diaries to school every day. We will change them on Wednesdays. It is vital that children experience discussion around fiction and non fiction, so we have provided every child with a prompt book mark to support this.
NUMBOTS
All children should have received their log in details for Numbots, to help them practise their maths. Log in details have also been stuck inside their reading diaries.
Spellings
Spelling tests will take place every Friday. A list of the spellings your child needs to learn has already been sent home. As it's an individual programme, children will move onto the next list in their own time, when they have got the spellings all correct. We have new red spelling books that the children will bring home with them each week. If they have got all of their spellings correct, we will move them on to the next set and we'll indicate this in their spelling book. If they have any wrong, please continue to learn that set and we'll retest them the following week.
PE
PE for this term will be on Wednesdays (inside - Gym) and Thursdays (outside - Games). Please send your child to school wearing the appropriate PE kit on these days. Also please make sure that jewellery is removed and long hair is tied back. Thank you.
Water Bottles
Children should have a water bottle in school each day please.
Healthy Snacks
Free fruit is available for morning break. You may provide your child with additional healthy snacks (no crisps, sweets, biscuits or nuts please).
Free School Meals
Please remember that your child is entitled to a free school dinner up until the end of Key Stage 1.
