Growing In Faith and Learning

'Growing in Faith and Learning' 'Life in all it's fullness' John 10:10

Welcome to St Leonard's CofE Primary School

Welcome to St. Leonard’s Church of England Primary School. We hope our website gives you a flavour of our vibrant, happy school and the achievements of our delightful children. We are a thriving church school in the picturesque village of Wigginton with a strong Christian ethos, growing in faith and learning. We passionately believe in developing the ‘whole child’ and ensure all children have the opportunity to reach their goals and shine in their own unique and wonderful way. Our kind, caring and dedicated team nurture, motivate and encourage our children to be confident and well-rounded members of their community. I am incredibly proud to be the Headteacher of St. Leonard’s, a place where children develop a passion for learning, feel good about themselves, are proud of their achievements and create lasting memories of friendship and connection in our school family. I warmly invite you to come and visit us at St. Leonard’s Mrs Kirsty Cullen, Headteacher.

  • A busy 2 weeks.

    Fri 22 Sep 2017

It's been a busy 2 weeks in school, with lots going on.

Robins enjoyed their Goldilocks theme when they came in their PJs and made their own porridge. They acted out the story, sung songs and played a lot of games. The children have had their first formal Phonics, maths and literacy lessons.

Kingsfishers have been comparing and ordering numbers in Maths, and writing captions for postcards in English. Their topic work has focused on the human and physical features linked to the Island of Struay from their Kate Morag story. They also enjoyed their first Forest school session this week.

Owls have been counting in multiples of 10, 100 and 1000; ordering 3 and 4 digit numbers and representing numbers in different ways in Maths. In English the focus has been on writing a description of an ancient pirate ship using expanded noun phrases. Their topic work involved making Roman clay plaques and Ancient Roman purses. Cars have been whizzing around the classroom, whilst they have been learning about friction.

The Kestrels have had fun with the key boards, chime bars and recorders recreating their own Mamma Mia soundtrack. In PE, the children have been developing their Netball skills. Science has focused on the space theme.

Falcons have really been enjoying their new text ‘Letters from the lighthouse’ and produced some excellent descriptions and diary entries. Maths has focused on place value and negative numbers. The children have been choreographing some excellent world war 2 dances which we hope to put on the website. In RE, we have been exploring faith through the arts.

  • Welcome back

    Fri 08 Sep 2017

Welcome back to an exciting new school year at St. Leonard's.  We've had a great first week and everyone is settling well into their new classes. We are all looking forward to an exciting term.

Robins have had a really good start in school. They have settled in amazingly well with only a couple of tears. Many friendships are blossoming. They had a treasure hunt to find their new buddies. The Once Upon a Time topic has commenced this week focusing on The Enormous Turnip. Reading books will be given out next week.

The Kingfishers class have had a wonderful first week and have had a fabulous theme day ‘Beside the Seaside’ to launch their new topic . Next week they will be starting to read their class text ‘Katie Morag’. In Maths they are focusing on number work.

The Owls are looking forward to their Roman theme day which will take place on 29th September. In Maths they have been working hard on place value. Diary’s have been a focus in English and they have been learning about life in Roman times.

Kestrels have ‘launched ‘ straight into their ’Out of this world’ supersonic space topic. The children have been busy creating their own ‘to infinity and beyond’ reading area in the classroom. They have also filled a time capsule which they will be burying until the end of the year.

The Falcons have welcomed their new member of the class ‘Mrs Pebbles’ their class pet as part of their ‘100 things’ that they want to experience before they leave St Leonard’s. They have begun their World War 2 theme and have started to read their class text ‘Letters from the Lighthouse’.
