Growing In Faith and Learning

'Growing in Faith and Learning' 'Life in all it's fullness' John 10:10

Welcome to St Leonard's CofE Primary School

Welcome to St. Leonard’s Church of England Primary School. We hope our website gives you a flavour of our vibrant, happy school and the achievements of our delightful children. We are a thriving church school in the picturesque village of Wigginton with a strong Christian ethos, growing in faith and learning. We passionately believe in developing the ‘whole child’ and ensure all children have the opportunity to reach their goals and shine in their own unique and wonderful way. Our kind, caring and dedicated team nurture, motivate and encourage our children to be confident and well-rounded members of their community. I am incredibly proud to be the Headteacher of St. Leonard’s, a place where children develop a passion for learning, feel good about themselves, are proud of their achievements and create lasting memories of friendship and connection in our school family. I warmly invite you to come and visit us at St. Leonard’s Mrs Kirsty Cullen, Headteacher.

  • Another busy 2 weeks.

    Fri 06 Oct 2017

It has been another busy 2 weeks in school.

Robins have been working hard on their phonics with all children getting involved. They have also had their first PE lesson! They have been investigating numbers and amounts and looking at how we can match quantities to numerals.

Kingfishers have been learning about number bonds and beginning to add numbers together. In English they have been writing descriptions with adjectives and expanded noun phrases. In DT they are making moving seaside pictures and in RE they have been exploring the creation of the world.

Owls have been partitioning numbers in maths and counting in 25s and 50s. In English they have completed their diary entries and completed a recount of a Roman day. They have also been sewing their own Roman purses. The children thoroughly enjoyed their Roman themed day, with lots of fun activities. Their costumes looked great too.

Kestrels have been investigating the life of Buzz Aldrin, in English, with a view to writing his biography. They have heard all about Albert, the first monkey in space. In gymnastics the children have enjoyed using the wall bars. After exploring the idea of being thankful in RE, they have been writing acrostic poems for our Harvest celebration. ‘Reason Rex’ has been encouraging them during maths.

The Falcons have enjoyed helping their buddies in Robins to write sentences for the Harvest festival. They have been creating prayer mats in RE using pointillism. This week they enjoyed their first Forest school session of the year. In PE they have been improving their Netball skills.

This year all of the year 6 children are taking on the role of COSLs (Children of St Leonard’s) and their aim is to fundraise to purchase school equipment. Their first project has been a whole school colouring competition which raised £8.10. The winners were: Oakley, Lilly, Amelia, Rhea, Grace, Eve and Anna. Well done everyone.
