Growing In Faith and Learning

'Growing in Faith and Learning' 'Life in all it's fullness' John 10:10

Welcome to St Leonard's CofE Primary School

Welcome to St. Leonard’s Church of England Primary School. We hope our website gives you a flavour of our vibrant, happy school and the achievements of our delightful children. We are a thriving church school in the picturesque village of Wigginton with a strong Christian ethos, growing in faith and learning. We passionately believe in developing the ‘whole child’ and ensure all children have the opportunity to reach their goals and shine in their own unique and wonderful way. Our kind, caring and dedicated team nurture, motivate and encourage our children to be confident and well-rounded members of their community. I am incredibly proud to be the Headteacher of St. Leonard’s, a place where children develop a passion for learning, feel good about themselves, are proud of their achievements and create lasting memories of friendship and connection in our school family. I warmly invite you to come and visit us at St. Leonard’s Mrs Kirsty Cullen, Headteacher.

Tue 19 Dec 2017 Mrs Smith

Today Santa came to school and all the Robins and Falcons were given a special present from the North Pole and PTA.

It was so exciting and we even got to meet Mrs Youngs little boy!

We hope that everyone has had a wonderful first term and we all look forward to welcoming you back in 2018!

  • Nativity 2017

Thu 14 Dec 2017 Mrs Smith

One Wednesday 13th and Thursday 14th the children from St Leonards school all took part in the Nativity "Little Angel finds her wings". Every child in the school either performed, read out or sang. It was a remarkable turn out and the children were thrilled to showcase their work to all who came to watch. Here are a few photos taken on the lead up and during the performance.

A special well done to all Robins and Kingfishers for the work they put in to the Nativity. We pulled it off even with snow, ice and rain. Thank you to all who came to support us.

  • Conkers Trip for Robins and Kingfishers

Thu 14 Dec 2017 Mrs Smith

Robins and Kingfishers all went on a wonderful trip to Conkers on the 6th December 2017. It was a fabulous trip where the children took part in a range of Christmas themed activities, met elves, rode the Santa Express and met Santa after walking through a snow filled forest.

All children were amazingly well behaved and although it was a long day Nursery children stayed awake almost the whole day (with a few falling asleep on the coach home). Here are a few photos from the wonderful day!

  • Snow Fun!

    Tue 12 Dec 2017 C.Young

We had a wonderful afternoon in our family groups- Saint Matthew, Saint Mark, Saint Luke and Saint John. Children worked together to design and build their own snowmen. Children and staff had great fun and showed excellent team work. The winning team was St. John. Well done everyone- super behaviour as always. We are all very proud of you.

  • Arrangements for Christmas Services 12/12/2017

    Tue 12 Dec 2017 Mrs M Edwards
    Dear Parent/Carer

Due to the weather, we are changing the arrangements slightly for the Christmas services. They will still take place in church at 1:30 on 13th and 14th of December.

Your children have all been absolutely wonderful during the rehearsal at church this morning behaviour was impeccable from all and we are all back at school safely.
We have left all of the costumes at church as it is too cold and wet for the children to walk to church in their costumes. This means, that when the children arrive tomorrow for the actual performance, you will need to bear with us, whilst we get them changed ready for their starring roles.
Following the performance, there will be refreshments for the audience in the church hall. Rather than the children leaving first (like we usually do) we will keep the children at church whilst the little ones get changed and then we will all walk back to school together.
You can then collect your children early or as normal from school. We will not be dismissing any children from church.
Reminder, the aisles are in use throughout the performance so please do not bring pushchairs into the church.
We have marked where the children will be sitting, so when you arrive you may sit in any of the unmarked pews. Falcons and Kestrels will be sitting in the balcony so that we can have as many seats in the middle area available for the audience so that you can see the show.

    Many thanks

    Mrs C Young
    Headteacher

    Fri 08 Dec 2017

The last 2 weeks have been very busy with lots going on:

Robins have been practising their roles in the Nativity and are really all just amazing! In addition to this we have introduced rainbow challenges which have been a massive hit empowering their curiosity and independence. The Rainbow challenge involves children undertaking a range of different challenges throughout the week in all areas of learning and collecting coloured lollypop sticks to record their achievement.

In Maths, Kingfishers have been recognising coins, notes and counting money in our role play shop. In English we have used conjunctions to extend sentences and link ideas. Our book Major Glad, Major Dizzy has now moved into the Second World War. In topic, we have been finding out about the blitz to link with our book. We are producing posters to show our learning. In science we have been examining weather changes as we move from Autumn to Winter.

Owls have continued to focus on our class text - The Tin Forest and have used fronted adverbials to describe the setting. In science we have been learning all about the structure of plants and what role the flower plays in pollination and fertilisation. In maths we have been learning how to divide. We have been applying this knowledge to help solve word problems. In RE we have been learning all about the Trinity.

Kestrels have been looking at formal written methods of multiplication and division, inverse operations and problem solving in maths. In English we have been comparing settings and enjoying drama activities linked to a Midsummer Night’s Dream. We had a great morning making bread at Rawlett. As we begin Advent our prayer spaces are purple and reflect our preparation for Jesus’ birth.

In English, Falcons have looked at events linked to letters from the light- house from the perspective of other characters in the book .In Maths we have continued to work hard on fractions, adding, subtracting and multiplying. In RE, we made Christingles and looked at the significance of each of the parts. In PSHE children are planning their own lesson to deliver to younger children to teach them about New Year celebration traditions.

Our Hindu Workshop was a great success. Our visitors commented on how wonderfully behaved our children were and how respectful they were of other people’s faiths.

Congratulations to the following children who received an award in Family worship this week.
