Growing In Faith and Learning

'Growing in Faith and Learning' 'Life in all it's fullness' John 10:10

Welcome to St Leonard's CofE Primary School

Welcome to St. Leonard’s Church of England Primary School. We hope our website gives you a flavour of our vibrant, happy school and the achievements of our delightful children. We are a thriving church school in the picturesque village of Wigginton with a strong Christian ethos, growing in faith and learning. We passionately believe in developing the ‘whole child’ and ensure all children have the opportunity to reach their goals and shine in their own unique and wonderful way. Our kind, caring and dedicated team nurture, motivate and encourage our children to be confident and well-rounded members of their community. I am incredibly proud to be the Headteacher of St. Leonard’s, a place where children develop a passion for learning, feel good about themselves, are proud of their achievements and create lasting memories of friendship and connection in our school family. I warmly invite you to come and visit us at St. Leonard’s Mrs Kirsty Cullen, Headteacher.

  • Talent Show

    Thu 25 Jan 2018

Wow, what an amazing night!  We really did prove that St Leonard's has lots of talent.  A huge congratulations to all of the children that took part:  hosts, sound & lighting, and all of the acts.  You were all amazing!!

Congratulations to our winner Jessica Wildes, second place Conor Hopwood, third place Neeve Finney, and Laila & Beau Smith who received a Special Award.

Also thank you to the four judges who had a very difficult job to do, and to all parents, carers and grandparents for supporting the event.  Finally a big thank you to Amy Radcliffe and Tamworth Enterprise College for allowing us to use their theatre for the event. I'm sure you'll agree that it was a brilliant night.

In Robins the children are working hard on their new topic based around Winter, Snow and Ice. We have been learning about different animals in the Arctic and their characteristics. In Reception the children have started their super sentences and are really starting to apply their phonic knowledge well.

Kingfishers children used clues from the mystery sack to write a prediction about our new class text in English. We worked with a partner to edit and re-write these. In maths we have been comparing and ordering numbers using > < =. In science our new topic Materials has begun and we have hunted for different materials around school. In RE we have looked at how people talk to God.

In Owls we have started our new topic - Water everywhere. We have started to read our exciting new book the Water Horse and written predictions about what the mystery egg might contain. In science we have planned an experiment to look at the best conditions to grow cress. In RE we have been learning about the trinity and how it is represented in religious art.

Kestrels have completed their area topic and have now begun work on multiplication using formal methods as well as applying their skills to multi-step problems. In English and topic we have launched our Africa theme when Sunny the Meerkat was posted to us with his book Meerkat Mail. We have been developing our use of inverted commas for direct speech and will be applying our skills to write newspaper reports. In RE children experienced a meditation session based on the creation.

Pupils in Falcons have been finishing their reports about rainforests and presenting them to the class. In Maths they have been dividing fractions. In PE, children were taught Volleyball by Mrs Wall - a teacher from Rawlett. In PSHE the children have been demonstrating responsibility and each group has prepared a short teaching session and activity for every class in the school. Their ideas and hard work have been amazing. Thanks to Mrs Hateley for organising such a great experience for the children.

Congratulations to the following children who received an award in Family worship this week.

    Falcons

Conor Hopwood for always putting others before himself.
Vinny Fernyhough for a great factual report about the Amazon Rainforest.

  • Changes to Nursery Provision from September 2018

    Mon 15 Jan 2018 C. Young

    Admissions to the Nursery Class

From September 2018, our Nursery provision has been extended. These changes include:

    • 30 hours of provision will now be available (9am-3pm daily)

    • Nursery children will be able to access the breakfast club and after school club. The 30 hours funding can be used flexibly for example to enable 4 longer days rather than 5 days. However bookings must be made monthly in advance because the staffing ratios vary if a nursery child is present.

    • Nursery children can be admitted the term after their third birthday- therefore we will now have 3 different intake points (September, January and after the Easter holidays).

    • Children may now also have a lunch at school. If a school meal is required, the meal is charged at £2.15 in line with the costs for key stage 2 children. Nursery children are not eligible for free school lunches.

    • For families not eligible for the 30 hours funding, additional sessions can be paid for. The cost of each session is £5.00 per hour and must be booked for each half term and paid in advance. Sessions booked, need to be whole sessions i.e. all morning (3 hours) or all afternoon (2hours or 3 hours including lunch).

    • We can take up to 13 children into the Nursery. The governors can agree to go over this number, if there are vacancies in the Reception class.

    • Please be advised that being allocated a place in our nursery does not mean that your child is entitled to a place the following year in Reception. The normal admissions criteria still applies.

Parents have to complete both a St Leonard’s and a Local Authority admission form (available online.) Application for admission to Nursery class should be submitted by 5th March 2018 for admissions in September 18. However, late applications will always be considered. Criteria for admission will be the same as for admission to the Reception year. St Leonard’s application forms must be returned to the school.

  • This week

    Fri 12 Jan 2018

In Robins, The Winter Snow and Ice theme was launched with a lovely story about Betty and the Yeti.

Kingfishers completed work on their Autumn term text ‘Major Glad, Major Dizzy’ and enjoyed a 1950s/60s themed dressing up day.  There were some amazing costumers.  Their new theme will be Knights and Castles. In maths they are beginning to learn about multiplication and division.

Owls will soon be launching into their new theme of Water, focusing on Dick King Smith’s – The Water Horse. Owls are learning about the lifecycle of a flowering plant in science and have been improving their watercolour and chalking techniques to re-create Tree Frog artwork.

Kestrel's new theme of Africa was launched on Monday. The children are looking at the Meercat Mail text as a stimulus for some high level writing opportunities. In science they are learning about animals and their habitats. Their geography work will focus on the physical geographic features of Africa and they will be undertaking some traditional weaving in Art and DT.

In Year 6, the children have begun their new topic - Rainforests. The children will be studying some amazing texts including the ‘Wonder Garden’ and Eva Ibbotson’s ‘Journey to the River Sea’.
The children have already begun to research the river Amazon as well as continuing their work on fractions in maths.

On Friday we held the auditions for the talent show.  Well done to everyone that took part, you all performed brilliantly.  We look forward to seeing you perform on 25th January at Tamworth Enterprise College.
