  Robins have had a lovely, busy couple of weeks, developing skills in all areas. They thoroughly enjoyed our ‘Apple’ Day when Farmer Ollie brought his tractor to school with lots of apples. Using the apples, they did apple printing, planted the seeds and made apple crumble! They have also had an Autumn day, where they went out picking leaves, sticks and stones. They have painted the stones for our Sensory Garden, made stick crosses and used the leaves to make lots of art work! The children have met Beat Baby as part of our phonics, teaching them to keep a steady beat. They really enjoyed our shape hunt at the beginning of the week, which we linked in some puddle splashing, due to the rain!

   

  Kingfishers are focussing on traditional tales in English and have been doing lots of Talk For Writing in preparation for retelling the story of The Three Little Pigs. They have been preparing for our Harvest Service by making fruit and vegetable riddles. They conducted an experiment in Science and found that the best material for keeping Mikey dry is plastic because it is waterproof, light and flexible. In Maths they have been using part whole models to identify fact families and then finding related addition and subtraction statements. In Games they have been developing and improving racquet skills in tennis.

   

  In science this week Owls have made and tested their very own switches. In maths they have been learning how to use the column method to add numbers together. The children have been working hard in topic lessons and have written a report on the mummification process. They have been investigating how we can all act to help make the world a better place in RE.

   

  Another busy couple of weeks for Falcons. On Tuesday last week they were very fortunate to have visitors in school to deliver a WW2 workshop. This was kindly funded by the Royal mail. Children thoroughly enjoyed the morning and got a lot out of it, particularly the opportunity to consider things from the German perspective. They have written letters of thanks for the wonderful session. They are also very pleased that we have been selected as the only primary school in Tamworth to make lanterns in preparation for the Tamworth Christmas lights switch on! Children enjoyed making these on Friday and are excited about being able to do it again this week!

  It has been a very busy 2 weeks in school.

   

  Robins have been working really hard on developing their phonemes, linking these to their reading and writing within lessons. In Maths, the children have worked hard to develop their counting skills and number recognition, with children developing this skill with numbers to 20! The children are loving our Junk Modelling area and making some wonderfully creative pieces! The children have been working on balancing on different parts of their bodies. 

   

  In Maths, Kingfishers have been comparing and ordering numbers and amounts using comparative language and signs. As well as working hard on our daily phonics, guided reading, spelling and letter formation, we have been using drama (freeze framing) in English to explore the emotions of characters from texts. For science we have planned an investigation to make an effective umbrella for Mikey (our class puppet). We have been exploring how our parents show that they love us in RE, and how God is also our Loving Father. We are developing our balance and shape in Gymnastics and exploring different ways of travelling with a ball in Games.

   

  Owls have been learning to count in sequences of 25 and 50. In English, we have written a set of instructions on how to create a model of Tutankhamun’s death mask. We have made our own circuits in science and we have identified insulators and conductors. In our topic lessons this week, we have placed important events that happened during the time of the ancient Egyptians on a time line.

   

  Falcons again have been very busy over the past couple of weeks. On Tuesday they presented their children’s TV programmes to Kingfishers which were well received. In English we are continuing to read Letters from the Lighthouse and have written a diary from the main character’s perspective. We are now working on playscripts.

  Owls hosted a brilliant coffee morning to support Macmillan’s coffee morning. Thank you for both your cake donations and for supporting this great event.

   

  A special well done to all of the children who competed in the year 3 and 4 cross country races over the past 2 weeks – they all performed really well and our top placing was by Natalie in year 3 who came 8th out of approximately 60 children– what an achievement!
