Growing In Faith and Learning

'Growing in Faith and Learning' 'Life in all it's fullness' John 10:10

Welcome to St Leonard's CofE Primary School

Welcome to St. Leonard’s Church of England Primary School. We hope our website gives you a flavour of our vibrant, happy school and the achievements of our delightful children. We are a thriving church school in the picturesque village of Wigginton with a strong Christian ethos, growing in faith and learning. We passionately believe in developing the ‘whole child’ and ensure all children have the opportunity to reach their goals and shine in their own unique and wonderful way. Our kind, caring and dedicated team nurture, motivate and encourage our children to be confident and well-rounded members of their community. I am incredibly proud to be the Headteacher of St. Leonard’s, a place where children develop a passion for learning, feel good about themselves, are proud of their achievements and create lasting memories of friendship and connection in our school family. I warmly invite you to come and visit us at St. Leonard’s Mrs Kirsty Cullen, Headteacher.

  • A busy fortnight including Family Worship

    Fri 06 Jul 2018

It's been a really busy 2 weeks in school with lots going on.  Last week we held our 'Shuffle up morning' where the children got to spend the morning in their new class.  It was lovely to welcome our new reception children in to school in the morning, and our new nursery children in the afternoon.  On Friday our year 1,2, and 3 children took part in the 'Big Sing' at the Coton Centre.

This week some of our year 5 and 6 children took part in the launch of the Bible Readathon at St Editha's Church, and on Tuesday the whole school took part in our dance day which ended with a whole school dance performance on the playground.

Robins have flown to China as part of their new topic 'Around the World'. After putting on their seatbelts, children made the most of the catering facilities ordering a range of drinks and snacks from the air stewards. On arrival they collected their luggage and went through passport control. Whilst in China they tried Chinese noodles, made flags, wrote their name in Chinese and learned about the Willow Pattern story. They also completed an obstacle course and been in the toy shop to practise recognising and counting coins.

Kingfishers have been continuing their work on mini beasts by researching and writing their own fact files. Their maths work has been based on place value and the children have been representing numbers in different ways. They all enjoyed the 'Big Sing' last week and the children made us so proud of the way they conducted themselves during the morning.

Owls have almost finished their work on their non-stop motion videos. Owls have also started work on their new Stone Age topic which has gone down really well with the children. In science they have been looking at sources of light.

Kestrels have been working on their speeches for their group presentations on the 5 K's of Sikhism in RE. They made paper cup telephones in science observing sound through vibration. In English they have made non-fiction books for Y1/2 children all about 2D and 3D shapes and of course they have been rehearsing hard for our end of year production. Kestrels also enjoyed their trip to the National Stone Centre where they took part in different activities such as digging for fossils, fossil casting and gem panning.

It has been a quiet time in Falcons with children attending their various transition days at their new school. The children enjoyed working with their buddies for one of the last times doing some joint writing as part of our whole school writing day. Falcons also produced some shape information booklets to teach Kingfishers about the properties of shapes and of course, rehearsals, rehearsal, rehearsals.

Congratulations to everyone who has received a Headteacher's this week. We didn't give out any awards last week as most of the school were busy in events off site including transition days in year 6, and year 1, 2 and 3 children taking part in the Big Sing.

    Robins

Archie for being thoughtful and kind to other children.

Finlay for his effort in using his phonics to help sound out words.

    Kingfishers

Joshua T for a great piece of writing.

Maisie for listening carefully and trying hard to following instructions.

    Owls

Jason for thoughtful contributions to class discussions.

Cameron for some lovely work in RE.

Finley for always completing tasks and for helping others.

    Kestrels

Neeve for drawing a beautiful Greek Vase.

Freya H for being so responsible and carrying out her classroom jobs diligently.

    Falcons

Vinny for excellent ideas during our poetry morning.

Jacob for always being an amazing role model for the rest of the school.

Congratulations to Falcons and Owls who won the Attendance award this week – 100% in both classes.
