Our Eco Council aim to find ways that our school can become more environmentally friendly so that we can protect our natural world and avoid exploitation. They put into place various different strategies for recycling and promote energy saving across the school. They work with Mr Postlethwaite and meet termly to share ideas and successes.
Eco Council Actions for this Year:
Reduce contamination in recycling bins by improving pupil awareness and ensuring that recyclable materials are disposed of correctly.
Increase opportunities to reuse paper across the school before recycling, promoting a culture of waste reduction.
Encourage all classes to recycle consistently and responsibly, developing whole-school accountability.
Improve the local environment for wildlife, creating safer habitats and encouraging greater biodiversity within our school and surrounding community.
Introduce a Climate Change Star Rating system for each class to recognise and celebrate environmentally responsible actions.
Enhance the school grounds through environmental projects that promote sustainability and outdoor learning.
We are delighted to announce that our school has been awarded the Gold Certificate for the Woodland Trust Green Tree School Award.
To achieve this recognition, we demonstrated our strong commitment to environmental sustainability across the school. This included embedding effective recycling systems and taking meaningful steps to reduce waste within our school community. The award reflects the hard work and dedication of our pupils and staff in promoting responsible environmental practices.
We are proud of this achievement and are already working towards the Platinum Award, with further initiatives and projects planned to continue improving our environmental impact.
Well done to our Eco-Council for leading this important work and inspiring positive change across the school.
As part of our ongoing commitment to improving the local environment, the Eco Council has invested in a range of new bird boxes, which have been installed around the school grounds to encourage nesting birds and support local wildlife.
In addition, the Eco Council has distributed hedgehog highway frames to families living in the surrounding area. These frames are designed to be fitted into a small opening cut into a wooden fence panel, allowing hedgehogs to move safely between gardens in search of food, water and shelter. The durable plastic frames fit securely around the opening, helping to create safe and accessible wildlife corridors within our community.
Through these initiatives, our pupils are actively contributing to biodiversity conservation and demonstrating their commitment to environmental stewardship beyond the school gates.
Hedgerow Heroes!
This afternoon, our dedicated Eco Council proudly planted a selection of trees kindly donated by the Woodland Trust.
Earlier this term, we successfully applied for a tree pack to help enhance our school grounds and repair gaps in our existing hedgerow. The new trees will not only strengthen the boundary of our site but will also provide valuable habitats for birds, insects and other wildlife, supporting local biodiversity.
Our Eco Council representatives worked incredibly hard, showing teamwork, care and a real commitment to improving our environment. We are very proud of the fantastic job they have done and look forward to watching the trees grow in the years ahead.
