Our intent is for EYFS is to encourage the children to become well rounded learners. We want the children to develop a passion and thirst for learning, building on their own interests to develop their skills in all areas of learning, to build the foundations for all future learning. We promote the independence of all children so they can develop skills taught and apply them in a variety of learning areas.

Our EYFS Priorities
We have highlighted the following priorities for our EYFS area this year;
- To have a smooth and consistent approach between all staff in the area, so children have consistent expectations.
- To ensure that all learning areas are consistently well resourced.
- For at least 80% of children to achieve GLD or above.

Phonics information from our Phonics Evening
The children have been working really hard to apply the phonics they have been learning to writing words independently. They are sound talking carefully to hear the phonemes needed.
The children enjoy using a range of ICT in the classroom. They have been working hard to develop their mouse skills at the laptop to complete different programs, as well as using the iPads to complete programs or take their own pictures around the classroom.
As the weather has turned so cold, and our topic is Snow and Ice, we decided to go for a frosty walk around school. We looked at the ice and discussed how it was different to snow and we observed how steam come out when we breathed. The children were able to tell me it happened because we are warm but the weather is cold!
Somebody froze our toys over the holiday!! We needed to find a way to free them. We tried hitting them but soon realised that when it is warmer, the ice begins to ....melt!
We really enjoyed our Autumn Day. It started with one of our class bringing lots of apples to school on his tractor. As a class, we looked at the apples, described them, cut them and discussed where they came from. From here we kept some of the apples to do some fruit printing from and gave the rest to Mrs Holt in the kitchen, peeled and chopped them ready for us to make apple crumble. In the classroom we made the crumble topping and then delivered this to Mrs Holt. Whilst the crumble was cooking, we went around school, collecting all things Autumn. It was lots of fun! We did lots of activities in the classroom and finished our day with apple crumble and custard. Delicious!
We baked and decorated our own Gingerbread Men after the story 'The Gingerbread Man'.
As part of our week reading The Gingerbread Man, we made and decorated our own Gingerbread men. We rolled the dough carefully and used the cutters to make the shape. We had to wait for them to cool before we decorated them. We loved doing the icing and decorating our own Gingerbread Men.
We have been reading Jack and the Beanstalk, so we decided to measure and compare the size of our footprints to those of the Giant. We used different things to measure the footprints.
