Welcome to St Leonard's CofE Primary School

I am delighted to welcome you to our website. I am proud to be the Headteacher at St. Leonard’s CofE Primary & Nursery School. We are located in the beautiful village of Wigginton and have a very strong community who are keen to support our school. Wrens

Welcome to the Wrens Class Page!

Welcome to our class page.  Our EYFS is lead by Miss Preece.

Wrens is our new Nursery class and they have 2 members of staff to support them in their learning.  These are Mrs Juxon and Mrs Jones.  Wrens will continue to work alongside Robins and have plenty of opportunity to work with the other children.

This half term we are learning through the topic 'All About Me'.  During this topic, we will look at a range of different texts, fiction and non-fiction.  This is a wonderful topic for the children to introduce themselves to others in the class as well as for us to get to know the children.   The children will learn through a range of activities, developing their skills in all areas, making learning fun and purposeful.

Phonics

This term our main focus is phonics, supporting the children in hearing different sounds.  Our children will start at Phase 1, where they focus on what they can hear as well oral segmenting and blending.

Please support your child with this at home, encouraging them to hear different sounds in the natural environment as well as whether they can identify words that you segment, e.g. c-a-t, the child would blend these to say cat.

PE

Our PE sessions this half term are on a Monday afternoon, but the children are presented with lots of opportunities to develop their moving and handling skill on a daily basis.  Please ensure that the children come dressed in their PE kits on a Monday, so that they are ready to participate in the activities.

RE

This term we are focusing on 'Why do Christians perform Nativity Plays at Christmas?'.

Reading

Nursery children will not be having reading books but we ask that you continue to share stories with them at home so they continue developing a love of books.

Maths

Children within Nursery will have a continuous provision which will have ample opportunities for children to explore number, shape, space and measure. We will encourage them to investigate and develop their language skills throughout their time in school, challenging them to think more independently and apply their own ideas. They will also have maths sessions where a focused aim is set, so they can then practise these skills at their leisure within the provision.

Kind regards

Home Learning

Hi children,

If you are doing this, then it is because you are not able to be in school.  We miss you and I have put some of our activities on here so you're not missing out on all of the fun!  I would love you to send us what you have been doing on Dojo!

Take care and we will see you soon!

Week Commencing 16th November

This week we are looking at different colours and how they represent different feelings.

We would like you to make a colour monster, you can use any junk modeling you may have or any other creative materials.

Can you name your colour monster and describe how they are feeling?

Can you draw a feelings monster what colour/colours would you choose and why? You can tell your adult all about your feelings monster and why they are feeling that way, why have you used those colours?

Can you draw number monsters up to 10? Then have a go at writing (mark making) the numbers by the side of each monster.

You have been telling Mrs Jones and Mrs Juxon all about how you help your adults around the house and garden. That’s Brilliant!!

Could you have a go at making your beds this week, as well as the other jobs you help with.

Wrens you are Super Stars! ⭐

Week Commencing 23rd November 2020

This week we are exploring the book, The Day the Crayons Quit.

Could you look at the book and tell your adult what colours you can see and can you remember the names of the animals you can see?

Can you create and recognise shape using lots of different coloured crayons or any other materials you may have?

Can you draw a picture of all the different animals and label them? Can you remember the different colours of the crayons and what they coloured in?

Wrens have had another fantastic week in class, helping Mrs Jones and Mrs Juxon tidying up and remembering to put lids on pens and glue sticks.  This week could you pratice cleaning your teeth and don’t forget to put the lid back on the toothpaste.😁😁

Phonics Meeting

As we have been unable to hold a meeting in school, I have attached the PowerPoint with audio linked to each page, explaining how we teach phonics at school.  I have also attached the booklet I would hand out.  I hope this is of help and if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me!

Thanks
