How Far I'll go challenge

Welcome to the Wrens Class Page!

Welcome to our class page.  Our EYFS is lead by Miss Preece.

Wrens is our new Nursery class and they have 2 members of staff to support them in their learning.  These are Mrs Juxon and Mrs Jones.  Wrens will continue to work alongside Robins and have plenty of opportunity to work with the other children.

This half term we are learning through the topic 'Pirates and Mermaids'.  During this topic, we will look at a range of different texts, fiction and non-fiction.  This is a wonderful topic for the children to get excited about different texts and roleplay as a pirate.   The children will learn through a range of activities, developing their skills in all areas, making learning fun and purposeful.

Home Learning

Hi children,

If you are doing this, then it is because you are not able to be in school.  We miss you and I have put some of our activities on here so you're not missing out on all of the fun!  I would love you to send us what you have been doing on Dojo!

Take care and we will see you soon!

Week Commencing 1st March 2021

Monday

Today I would like you to use your voice to make different sound effects.  Can you make a sound like a ticking clock or a doorbell?

I would like you to listen to the story Naughty Bus again.  Can you use a car/bus to dip the wheels in paint and show the journey it takes on a piece of paper, by painting with the wheels?  Can it drive to write your name?

Tuesday

Today I would like you to listen to the sounds around you on your walk or in your home.  Can you make the sounds by using your voice, just like them?

I would like you to think of the Easter Story today.  These is a PowerPoint attached below, that I would like you to go through and discuss with an adult.  Do you like Hot Cross Buns?  These are a symbol of Easter.  The bun symbolises the rock in front of the tomb and the Cross on the bun symbolises the cross where Jesus was.  Can you make your own Hot Cross Buns with playdough?

Wednesday

Today I would like you to teach an adult Old MacDonald had a Farm.  What animals will be in the song? What noises do they make?

Can you make a junk modelling Jungle like the one the Naughty Bus went through?  Can you take your toy through the jungle and tell an adult what it sees?  How does it feel?

Thursday

Today is our screen free learning day.  Activities are on the class page of the website.

Friday

Can you sing Old MacDonald had a Farm again?  What other animals could you include?  Can you make the sounds?

Imagine you are on he a bus, where do you go?  Can you make a map of where you go?  You could do this by using your toys as the places and driving around them in your bus.

Phonics

This term our main focus is phonics, supporting the children in hearing different sounds.  Our children will start at Phase 1, where they focus on what they can hear as well oral segmenting and blending.

Please support your child with this at home, encouraging them to hear different sounds in the natural environment as well as whether they can identify words that you segment, e.g. c-a-t, the child would blend these to say cat.

PE

Our PE sessions this half term are on a Thursday afternoon, but the children are presented with lots of opportunities to develop their moving and handling skill on a daily basis.  Please ensure that the children come dressed in their PE kits on a Thursday, so that they are ready to participate in the activities.

RE

This term we are focusing on 'Why do Christians place a cross ont he Easter garden?'.

Reading

Nursery children will not be having reading books but we ask that you continue to share stories with them at home so they continue developing a love of books.

Maths

Children within Nursery will have a continuous provision which will have ample opportunities for children to explore number, shape, space and measure. We will encourage them to investigate and develop their language skills throughout their time in school, challenging them to think more independently and apply their own ideas. They will also have maths sessions where a focused aim is set, so they can then practise these skills at their leisure within the provision.

Kind regards

Phonics Meeting

As we have been unable to hold a meeting in school, I have attached the PowerPoint with audio linked to each page, explaining how we teach phonics at school.  I have also attached the booklet I would hand out.  I hope this is of help and if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me!
