Growing In Faith and Learning

'Growing in Faith and Learning' 'Life in all it's fullness' John 10:10

Welcome to St Leonard's CofE Primary School

I am delighted to welcome you to our website. I am proud to be the Headteacher at St. Leonard’s CofE Primary & Nursery School. We are located in the beautiful village of Wigginton and have a very strong community who are keen to support our school. Our strong Christian ethos underpins everything we do and everyone associated with our school is committed to helping our children ‘Grow in Faith and Learning’. Caroline Hall - Headteacher.

Owls is a Key Stage two class with Year 3 and Year 4 children, taught by Mr Postlethwaite and assisted by Mrs. Juxon, Mrs. Green (On Fridays) and Mrs. Jones.

Our first topic of the new school year is 'The Ancient Egyptians'. We can't wait to get started!

Reading Diaries

Please encourage your child to read often and discuss, predict and question your child's understanding of the text. Please ensure you have signed your child's reading diary and remind them to bring reading books and diaries to school every Monday and Friday, to be checked.

Six Book Reading Challenge

The children are set the challenge of reading 6 books over the year. Year 3 and Year 4 have different sets to complete. These books can be read by themselves or read to them by an adult. Once they have completed all six they will receive an award during a celebration assembly.

Times Tables

The children will complete a times table test every Wednesday. The children will be told which times table they need to learn and will receive a certificate when they have passed them.

Spelling tests will take place every Tuesday. A list of the spellings your child needs to learn will be sent home. As it's an individual programme, children will move onto the next list in their own time, when they have got the spellings all correct. If they have got all of their spellings correct, we will move them on to the next set and we'll indicate this in their spelling book. If they have any wrong, please continue to learn that set and we'll retest them the following week.

PE for this term will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Please send your child into school in their PE kit on these days. Also please make sure that jewellery is removed and long hair is tied back. Our Thursday session this term will be swimming. Thank you.

Water Bottles

Children should have a water bottle in school each day please.

Healthy Snacks

During playtimes, the children will only be allowed healthy snacks (no crisps, sweets, biscuits or nuts please).
