Welcome to St Leonard's CofE Primary School

I am delighted to welcome you to our website. I am proud to be the Headteacher at St. Leonard’s CofE Primary School. We are located in the beautiful village of Wigginton and have a very strong community who are keen to support our school. Our strong Christian ethos underpins everything we do and everyone associated with our school is committed to helping our children ‘Grow in Faith and Learning’. Catherine Young- Headteacher.

Visions and Values

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. They underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils as confident, happy citizens.

Our Vision

Our vision is to be an outstanding church school, guided by God, where learning is irresistible, achievement is high and our pupils leave us as successful learners, happy, confident individuals and caring, responsible citizens, excited by challenge, change and possibility.

Aims of the school

Our overall aim at St Leonard's School is to ensure that all children maximise and achieve their true potential both academically and socially by providing an education of the highest quality within the context of Christian belief and practice. In order to achieve this we aim to support and develop our pupils in the following ways:
-By promoting a Christian ethos of care, understanding, mutual respect, understanding and co-operation throughout the whole school community and beyond, with everyone valued equally.

-By providing effective and stimulating teaching and interesting and enjoyable learning experiences which meet all the requirements of the National Curriculum and which encourage children to be independent life-long learners.

-By creating a calm, secure, well-structured positive learning environment, based on high expectations, where each child should be able to learn and each teacher be able to teach without interruption from others.

-By developing positive partnerships between home and school, with regular communication and dialogue.

-By celebrating regularly the work and successes of our school community and the individuals within it, thereby raising self-esteem.

-By ensuring that everyone has an equal opportunity to attain their full potential, regardless of their gender, culture, faith or ability.

School Prayer

Our school prayer was written in collaboration by the pupils of St. Leonard’s. Everyone’s ideas were recorded and then a competition amongst the year 6 pupils took place, to write a prayer that encompassed the values and hopes of all of the children. After a vote, the favourite prayer was decided:

Dear Loving God,

Thank you for the opportunities you have provided us with. Please guide us as we progress through this school and look after us in times of need. Help us to fulfill our potential and help others achieve theirs. Help us to grow in faith and learn together.
