Welcome to St Leonard's CofE Primary School

Welcome to St. Leonard’s C of E Primary School, Wigginton. As a flourishing church community, we are committed to "growing in faith and learning," empowering every child to achieve their potential and shine brightly. Our devoted team nurtures the "whole child," building confidence and a lifelong curiosity within our inclusive school family where children flourish and create cherished, lasting memories. Mrs Kirsty Cullen Headteacher.

Hawks

Welcome to Hawks!

Eagles Class is mixed aged class made up of Year 4 and Year 5 children. This year, Hawks will be taught by Mrs Lowe and supported by Mrs Prentice.

Reading

Children in Key Stage 2 are encouraged to read a wide range of texts as often as possible. They have free choice over what they read, including books, magazines and newspapers. Please continue to encourage your child to read regularly at home, as this has a very positive impact on their learning across all subjects. Reading diaries will be checked every Friday, so children must ensure they are in school. In Key Stage 2, children are encouraged to write their own comments in their diaries, using prompts provided to support them.

If children read at least three times a week, they will receive a Dojo reward.

Six Book Reading Challenge

In Key Stage 2, each year group has the opportunity to complete the Six Book Reading Challenge. Each year group is set six books to try to read before the end of the year. These books can be read independently or with the support of an adult. Once all six books have been completed, children will receive a medal and certificate during family worship. Your child will bring their first reading challenge book home this week.

Times Tables and Spelling Tests

Times tables and spelling tests will take place each week (Times tables on a Tuesday and Spellings on a Friday). Children should practise these throughout the week and ensure that their spelling sentence sheets are brought into school on Fridays.

PE

PE lessons will take place on Wednesday and Friday afternoons.

Children should come to school wearing their PE kit on these days. Please ensure that:

  • Jewellery is removed
  • Long hair is tied back

Thank you for your support.

Water Bottles

Children should bring a water bottle into school each day containing water only.
