Growing In Faith and Learning
Life can be hectic and we are often too busy to allow our children to learn to do things for themselves as it's much quicker, as an adult, to do things ourselves. Many six year olds ARE capable of making toast for their breakfast, they CAN tie their shoelaces and they CAN make it up a hill whilst carrying their own essentials. After completing a level of the Junior Duke, many parents have said that they expect more from their children as they now know their youngsters are so capable!
All they need is the time and space to explore, learn from their mistakes and learn to be safe.
The Junior Duke Award has been designed to be inclusive. Every student, whatever their background, will benefit from the confidence and competence that the challenges develop.
Whilst high academic achievers may take on the Award to push their knowledge and skill base even further, pupils with more practical strengths love that the Award provides a different challenge to normal school academia. It’s special to watch how motivated all the children are to get stuck in and cheer each other on.
Children can book into the Junior Duke after school club with Mrs Cullen in the summer term to complete any of the challenges.
There are currently 111 pupils completing the Junior Duke award - that's 80% of our school.
